Tanya Washington Stern
Tanya Washington Stern is the Chief of Staff at the DC Office of Planning (OP)where she has overseen agency management, legislative outreach, communications and special projects for the agency since March 2010.
Ms. Stern leads OP’s Healthy by Design initiative to promote access to healthy food and active living amenities in DC. She is also the Project Manager for the District’s work in partnership with the National Capital Planning Commission for the joint Height Master Plan currently underway to explore the impact of strategic changes to the federal Height of Buildings Act of 1910.
Ms. Stern has served in the Government of the District of Columbia since 2004. Before joining OP she conducted program, policy and budget analysis and development in support of oversight over several agencies in the Office of the City Administration and performance management at the then-Office of Property Management, both during the Fenty administration. Prior to those agencies, Ms. Sternworked as a Community Planner at the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and as a Special Assistant in the Executive Office of the Mayor under former Mayor Anthony Williams. Additionally, Ms.Stern has over ten years of non-profit experience in Washington, DC and Philadelphia. Ms. Stern holds a Master’s Degree in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and Six Sigma Green Belt certification and is a Certified Public Manager.
